This beautiful head adornment belongs to one of the richest and the oldest theatrical Balinese performance named “Arja”. The dance, unlike other dances on the island, is in sync with the song sung by the dancer or in harmony with the beat of the gamelan, the Balinese traditional orchestra.
This Arja Balinese age-old handmade crown is called ‘gelungan’ and made out of water buffalo hide (leather) that is carved and punctured by hand. The piece is embellished with hand worked metal, brass and jewelry.
