The beaded head adornment with hair pieces is from the ethnic tribe Orang Ulu.Orang Ulu is a collective name to various sub-ethnic groups indigenous to Sarawak, Kalimantan – Malaysia, which literally means ‘upriver people’.
The Orang Ulu are artistic people, their longhouses are elaborately decorated with murals and woodcarvings, their utensils are embellished with intricate beadwork, and aristocratic ladies cover their hands, arms, legs and feet with detailed tattoos. Orang Ulu men are renowed warriors and hunters.
This special headdress is used for traditional dance ceremonies or during a wedding ceremony for the males, which represents the true warrior. It is decorated with old beads and goat hair and uses a basketry frame from rattan.
