This golden crown originates from the region Tulang Bawang, currently known as the Lampung province located on the south of Sumatra, Indonesia. In the 7th century the Chinese officially recorded this province the Sumatran Kingdom Sriwijaya. Between the 6th and the 12th century Sriwijaya was the leading maritime power of Southeast Asia and was seen as the center of Asia of Buddhist learning. The Buddhist 'lotus' and the 'ship' motif are merged as a significant icon for the Lampung province untill today.
The wedding ceremony is one of the most important life events in Lampung's culture, where the groom wears a less spectacular (compared to the bride) golden crown decorated wih lotus flowers.
